In a decisive victory, the No. 3-ranked Mounties of Mt. San Antonio College defeated the Owls of Citrus College 42-21. This win also marked the end of Citrus Football's 17-game impressive winning streak.
The Mounties defense dominated the game from start to finish, registering six sacks. Midway through the second half, Mt. Sac drove 86 yards in 7 plays. Dedrek Taylor-Akins 17 yd pass from Alex Flores opened the lead to 42-17.
Shortly after, Citrus' Donovan Zackery 13 yd pass from Koy Riggin cut Mt. Sac's lead to 42 - 21. However, they hold off the Owls and themselves even though they registered 17 penalties for 179 yards compared to the Owls' 8 penalties for 99 yards.
With this victory, the Mounties improved their record to 4-0 and are looking to continue their winning streak next Saturday at home vs. San Bernardino Valley College.
For the Owls, losing and getting their 17-game winning streak snapped is uncharted territory. The team hasn't experienced a loss since 2021, and it's undoubtedly a disappointment for the players, coaches, and fans alike. However, the team has shown resilience in the past and will surely use this loss as motivation to come back stronger. They'll need it for next Saturday as they look to start a new winning streak at Golden West College.
